Julian;
I usually never intervene on the long cycles. If I were to, a full basket would not necessarily cause an intervention. If I were close to a margin call, I may close other pairs to free up margin but that's the extent of my intervention. I have not done that on this account though.
Having said that, this account was started on 1/5 with 12,000 and almost blew out on 1/20. This is friends money, and I didnt want to tell them I lost it all in 2 weeks so I did pull the plug and captured a 70% loss. There was 3500 left. I put in another 3500 and we started over with 7,000 and this is the chart you see now. I have been pulling off the profits weekly, and we have grown enough to trade 14,000 on the Envy short cycles, and I trade Ultra on a .3 risk setting one day a week on our savings account. Our portfolio, since January has grown from 7,000 to 32,000 dollars.
In retrospect, had I not closed the positions, the systems would have recovered literally 3 hours later. I have seen this in other instances of my intervention on short cycles (Im a little more nervous there) that they recover after I intervene. I know it takes balls of brass, but I really think the appropriate intervention at near margin calls is to throw another 50% account equity at the account and just let it work.

haha, yea it takes balls alright. I used to use the method of closing out all other positions once one basket got full and let the basket ride... because as you say, it does tend to recover but it just needs margin to work. It would of course reduce profit but it also increased sleep at night ;)

All four FinFX accounts (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4) are being shut down. The performance difference between FinFx and Traders Way is huge. While I prefer broker diversification, the differences are so large that I can no longer ignore this. They will be restarting next weekend. Anything you want to follow of mine can be found under Michigander.
Peace out.
Peace out.
