Malaysia Manufacturing PMI Rises In January - S&P

(RTTNews) - The manufacturing sector in Malaysia continued to contract in January, albeit at a slower rate, the latest survey from S&P Global revealed on Thursday with a manufacturing PMI score of 49.0.

That's up from 47.9 in December, although it remains beneath the boom-or-bust line of 50 that separates expansion from contraction.

Manufacturing new orders moderated for the seventeenth month running in January, through the latest slowdown was the weakest recorded since October 2022. Firms often reported that the muted demand environment weighed on sales though some companies noted a slight improvement at the start of 2024.

This trend was extended to international demand, as new export orders reduced at the softest pace in the current nine-month sequence.
