Food accounts for 16.1%, Household Operations, Furnishings and Equipment 11.8%, Recreation & Education and Reading for 11.8 %, Clothing and Footwear 5.7%, Health and Personal Care account for 5%, and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Products account for the final 3%. The Consumer Price Index basket is evaluated every four years based on data collected from household surveys. The current weights are based on expenditure patterns that occurred throughout the year 2009.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the CAD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the CAD.
