Consumer prices in Colombia are composed of three primary components: housing and utilities (33.1% of overall weight), food and non-alcoholic beverages (15.1%), and transportation (12.9%). Restaurants and hotels (9.4%), other products and services (5.4%), education (4.4%), and information and communication (4.3%) are among the other top industries in the country. The remaining 15.4% weight is made up of furnishings, apparel and footwear, recreation and culture, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and health. With the CPI, the urban population of 38 capital city departments, including some metropolitan areas, is covered. These cities have by far the greatest registered population and have the most active economic environment in the country when compared to the other cities in the country.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the COP while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the COP.
