The food and non-alcoholic beverages category (25.1% of total weight) is the most important category in the consumer price index in the Dominican Republic. 18% of total expenditures account for transportation, followed by housing and utilities (11.6%), restaurants and hotels (8.5%), miscellaneous goods and services (7.5%), and furniture, household goods, and maintenance (6.5%). The remaining 22.8% of the total weight is divided among the following categories: health, clothing and footwear, recreation and culture, education, communication, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the DOP while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the DOP.
