El Salvador Balance of Trade
The trade deficit in El Salvador is mostly caused by the country's need to import fuels, consumer products, and industrial equipment. Exports of textiles are the most significant, followed by chemicals, rubber and plastics, metallurgical products, and sugar, among other things. The United States is the most important trading partner, accounting for 45% of exports and 32% of imports. Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua are some of the other countries.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the USD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the USD.
