Germany 2-Year Schatz Auction
The statistics listed on the calendar represent the average yield on the Schatz notes that were auctioned. Notes from Germany's Schatz bank have maturities of two years. Treasuries are issued by governments as a means of borrowing money to bridge the gap between the amount of money they collect in taxation and the amount of money they spend to refinance existing debt and/or raise capital. If an investor holds a treasury for the entire length of the bond, the yield on the Schatz represents the return that the holder will earn. At the highest accepted bid, all bidders receive the same rate as the highest accepted bid. Yield changes should be regularly examined as an indicator of the state of the government's debt. Investors compare the average rate at auction to the average rate at prior auctions of the same securities to determine whether or not to bid.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the EUR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the EUR.
