Japan Tertiary Industry Index MoM
The activity index of the tertiary industry is a tool for understanding the overall idea of industrial operations in the tertiary industry, which includes all company categories within the industry. When a composite index is used to indicate activity in various business categories, the indexes used to express activity in each business category are combined and given a weight based on the scale of relative importance assigned to each business category (value-added). Tertiary activity is dominated by wholesale trade, which accounts for 15% of total tertiary activity, followed by medical, health care, and welfare (12%), living and amusement-related services (12%), information and communications (11%), retail trade (10%), transportation (10%), postal activities (10%), finance and insurance (9%), real estate (8%), business-related services (7%), electricity (3%), gas (3%), heat supply & water (3%), and goods rental and leasing (3%).
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the JPY while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the JPY.
