The Leading Index in Mexico gives an early indication of the direction in which the economy is heading. It combines the following indicators: employment trend in manufacturing sector, non-oil exports, Mexican stock exchange index in real terms, real exchange rate, the interbank interest rate, and the Standard & Poor's 500 index. As of 2008, the index has a base value of 100 points.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the MXN while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the MXN.
