Consumption of food and beverages accounts for 22% of the total weight of the consumer price index in Saudi Arabia. Other important categories included in the index are housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels accounting for 21% of the total weight, transportation (10%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household (9%), and clothing and footwear and communication (8% each). Additionally, miscellaneous goods and services (7%) and restaurants and motels (6%). The remaining 9% is composed of recreation and culture, education, health, and tobacco.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the SAR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the SAR.
