United States Dallas Fed Manufacturing Index
The performance of the manufacturing sector in the state of Texas is measured by the Dallas Fed Manufacturing Index (DFMI). According to the index, which is drawn from a survey of over 100 corporate executives and measures several indicators such as output, employment, orders, and prices, a value greater than 0 shows an increase in factory activity when compared to the previous month; a reading less than 0 indicates a decrease in factory activity, and a reading of 0 indicates no change. Texas accounts for around 9.5% of total manufacturing production in the United States. The state comes in second place behind California in terms of factory production, but it ranks first in terms of exports of manufactured goods.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the USD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the USD.
