United States FOMC Minutes
The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve (Board) and the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) have equal authority to set interest rates in the United States. After receiving recommendations from one or more of the regional Federal Reserve Banks, the Board makes a decision on discount rate modifications. The FOMC makes decisions on open market activities, such as central bank money levels and the federal funds market rate.

U.S. Consumer Sentiment Jumps In December As Inflation Expectations Tumble
A report released by the University of Michigan on Friday showed a significantly bigger than expected improvement in U.S. consumer sentiment in the month of December. The University of Michigan said its consumer sentiment index surged to 69.4 in December from 61.3 in November. Economists had expected the index to inch up to 62.0.

U.S. Job Growth Exceeds Estimates In November, Unemployment Rate Unexpectedly Dips
Employment in the U.S. increased by more than expected in the month of November, according to a highly anticipated report released by the Labor Department on Friday. The Labor Department said non-farm payroll employment jumped by 199,000 jobs in November, while economists had expected employment to climb by 180,000 jobs. The report also said the unemployment rate unexpectedly dipped.
