United States NFIB Business Optimism Index
Approximately 620 NFIB members are questioned in a survey to generate the NFIB Small Business Optimism Index in the United States. The index is composed of ten seasonally adjusted components. Plans to increase employment, plans to make capital expenditures, plans to increase inventory, expectations of an improving economy, expectations of higher real sales, current inventory, current job openings, expected credit conditions, whether now is a good time to expand, and earnings trend are some of the questions on the list.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the USD while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the USD.

U.S. Manufacturing Index Unexpectedly Edges Lower In December
A report released by the Institute for Supply Management on Monday showed its reading on U.S. manufacturing activity unexpectedly decreased in the month of December. The ISM said its manufacturing PMI edged down to 47.9 in December after slipping to 48.2 in November, with a reading below 50 indicating contraction. Economists had expected the index to inch up to 48.3.

U.S. Jobless Claims Unexpectedly Decrease To 199,000
First-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly dipped in the week ended December 27th, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Wednesday. The report said initial jobless claims fell to 199,000, a decrease of 16,000 from the previous week's revised level of 215,000. Economists had expected jobless claims to rise to 220,000.
