Due to the fact that exports have grown faster than imports since 2012, Vietnam has been posting trade surpluses on a more frequent basis in 2012. Trade deficits in 2017 were recorded with the following countries: South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Argentina, and Singapore. Vietnam experienced trade surpluses with the United States, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Austria.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the VND while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the VND.
