The consumer price index in Zambia is composed of four main components: food and non-alcoholic beverages (which account for 54% of the total weight); housing and utilities (which account for 11%); furnishings, domestic equipment, and routine maintenance of the residence (which accounts for 8%); and clothing and footwear (which accounts for 8%). Transportation (6%), Miscellaneous products and services (5%), and Education (3%) are among the other sectors that are included. The remaining 5% of overall weight is divided among the following categories: alcoholic beverages and tobacco, recreation and culture, communications, health, and restaurants and hotels.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the ZMW while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the ZMW.
