Breakaway Block Pattern Definition
The Breakaway candlestick pattern consists of five candlesticks and a gap zone, which indicates a possible market reversal. Due to the stringent restriction of five consecutive candlesticks, the breakaway pattern is rarely developed on the price chart. Nevertheless, it remains a significant indicator of the changing market sentiment.
Is Breakaway Candlestick Bullish or Bearish?
As a reversal indicator, Breakaway candlestick patterns occur in either upward or downward-trending markets forming the Bullish Breakaway and the Bearish Breakaway candlestick patterns.
The Bullish Breakaway pattern comprises five candlesticks, the first of which is long and bearish, followed by three shorter bearish bars. The last candlestick then breaks above the high of the three preceding candlesticks. The bullish breakout comes during a significant price decline. It is a buy signal indicating the reversal of a bearish trend.
The Bearish Breakaway pattern also consists of five candlesticks, with the first being extremely bullish, the second opening with a gap and closing above the opening price, the third being bullish and closing above the previous candle, the fourth also closing above the previous candle, and the fifth being bearish and closing within the gap range. It is a sell signal suggesting that the market may be about to change direction and that a price drop is on the way.
