The basic answer: having a trading system. Following a trading system takes all emotions out of the game. And not trading more than you are willing to lose.

I avoid taking decisions in high pressure environment, especially when it comes to dealing with risk. The second best trade after a profitable trade is making no trade at all because you are guaranteed to have zero return which is still decent performance considering that 70-80% traders end up in a loss in trading. Usually my trading plan solves the part where I have to take some tough decision by placing restrictions on what I can lose and earn.
