Consumer Price Indexes in Japan are dominated by two categories: Food (which accounts for 25% of total weight) and Housing (which accounts for 15% of total weight). Transportation and Communications contribute 14% of total expenditures, Culture and Recreation account for 11.5%, Fuel, Light, and Water expenses account for 7%, Medical Care accounts for 4.3%, and Clothing and Footwear account for 4%. The remaining of the total weight is divided between Furniture and Domestic Furnishings, Education, and other miscellaneous Goods and Services.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the JPY while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the JPY.
