Following its independence from Serbia in 2006, Montenegro is currently undertaking an economic transition. It does not have its own currency, and the Euro is used as legal tender throughout the country. The economy of Montenegro is primarily reliant on foreign tourists, as well as on the sale of refined metals. On the financial side, household consumption accounts for the majority of GDP (80%), followed by government expenditure (19%) and gross fixed capital formation (19%). Exports of products and services account for 40% of GDP, while imports account for 60%, resulting in 20% of total GDP.
