Asian Shares Retreat On Rate Worries

(RTTNews) - Asian stocks tumbled on Wednesday as strong U.S. data dented rate cut hopes and oil extended gains amid rising tension in the Middle East, clouding the inflation outlook.

China's Shanghai Composite index slipped 0.18 percent to 3,069.30 even as a private survey showed service sector activity in the country grew as expected in March. Across the Tasman, New Zealand's benchmark S&P NZX-50 index fell 0.46 percent to 12,040.49.

U.S. stocks ended lower overnight as the yield on the benchmark ten-year note reached a four-month high on comments from Fed officials signalling higher interest rates for longer.
