I give up for today, earlier I opened a long and I had to close it at a loss when it fell. :(

@leo23 Thank you so much for all this advice. Some of it I knew, some of it never occurred to me. I've long used free anti-virus software and I trusted it, now I need to think about alternatives. :(

I agree with all that has been said above. Also, I would add that when picking a strategy a trader should remember two things - that he shouldn't be afraid to switch out a strategy that is not working and that he shouldn't try to fix things that aren't broken.

I, personally, prefer to use stop loss but I generally recommend doing so to anyone who asks me, but there are people who trade without it and do just fine.

True, most are scheduled. But you also have events like the Swiss bank unpegging the CHF which threw the market into chaos totally unexpectedly.

There ARE a lot of scamming companies offering Forex trading on the market. (https://www.forexbrokerz.com/news/tags/warning) . Unfortunately many newbies lack both the knowledge and the experience to differentiate between a legitimate company and a scammer and they do end up getting scammed. It’s not all just empty complaints from people who trade badly because they don’t know how to trade.

That is certainly one of the risks involved. But you also have random events causing spikes in the price, and those are unpredictable.
