we are so different in what we are doing that it's better to keep discussions out of trading 😉

How to Test:

1 - close all Symbols in Market watch except one.(any)
2- download https://tcpmonitor.altervista.org/ TCPEye or any other similiar tool to find your broker IP including the port.
3- download https://www.elifulkerson.com/projects/tcping.php TCPING and replace it any folder. I recommend program files. then run it from command window with the following setup Tcping -t -i 2 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port if you do correct it will ping every 2 sec until you pres ctrl+c. note average value that calculated after you exit.
4- download https://forex-expats.com/recommended/ test EA from bottom of the page as Remus Miclea recommended. place it in to your MT4 expert folder and run on a chart. sum up the values and take average of 24 values.

here we go.

what does those numbers point.

the latency measured above is two way data transfer speed. data fırst sent to broker server and broker server respond that ping. so our IP to broker server IP latency is half of the ping results.

in order execution MT4 send order request to broker server and broker server respond to that call and respond back.

2011.08.29 16:48:20 '2088479498': request was accepted by server
2011.08.29 16:48:20 '2088479498': request in process
2011.08.29 16:48:20 '2088479498': order was opened : #318799518 sell 0.10 EURUSDgcm at 1.45232 sl: 0.00000 tp: 0.00000

as you can see above from MT4r jurnal, thıs has 2 steps of execution.
first order send by our platform to broker.
broker respond back that order request accepted.
and respond back again when order opened.

if broker latency is eg. 60ms and order execution is >60x4=240ms then you should think twice about to whom you are dealing with.

this is ofcourse more important for scalpers and/or TP <15pip
if you are trading with >25pip TP thıs does not effect your trades too much.
if you are trading with >100pip TP dont think about it :)

Look at the Nord Markets. Latency is 160ms and avarage order executıon speed is 216ms.
I have checked their web page and it says 139ms order execution. quite interesting ;)

Knut

I have visited their web page and I dont feel ok. It showed up in Russian. International brokers show up with English what ever their main language is. Also I could not download their platform. there was an error on page. I advise you to stay away from it.

ofcourse this is a personal commnet.

it's ok, but not superfast :)

Approximate trip times in milli-seconds:
     Minimum = 102.898ms, Maximum = 117.828ms, Average = 108.526ms

Steve, during your tests, do you test all available servers of a broker and take the best performing one?

I did some tests using real accounts. The ping times seem to hold stable no matter the time of the day and week, but for order execution times I only did the tests Sunday right after the market opened, when I thought I'll get the best times:

Average ping times from San Diego VPS (CNS):

Alpari UK = 146
Alpari US = 73
ATC Brokers = doesn't reply to ping
FXDD = 82
InstaForex = 33
MB Trading = 10
Pepperstone = 169

Average ping times from New York VPS (Razor):

Alpari UK = 77
Alpari US = 2
ATC Brokers = doesn't reply to ping
FXDD = 5
InstaForex = 46
MB Trading = 83
Pepperstone = 238

Average order execution/open/modify (I only tested some combinations for broker & VPS location):

Alpari UK from NY = 928
Alpari US from CA = 913
ATC Brokers from NY = 372
FXDD from CA VPS = 525
FXDD from NY VPS = 434
InstaForex from CA = 867
