Is it proper for my broker to charge both spread and commission on a trade on their C-trader's platform

Hello,
Short answer is yes, but in this case you need to see very tight spreads (interbank spreads).
How to check this: just compare the spreads with few brokers offering interbank spreads with commissions and what you see on your terminal.

Brokers that charge commission always have a spread as well but it is very small

Yes it is possible, even maximum market maker brokers increase their trading spread during high voltage news session! For being a news trader, I suffered a lot on spread issue! Yes, as like others retail Forex traders I am also interested on low trading spread, and I am interested on fixed trading service only!

Spread is important but it only really matters around news time or is you are a scalper.

But, I don’t think so! I am a swing trader but till now I am concern about trading spread issue! High trading spreads always skill my profit ratio, that’s way narrowest trading spreads is my always favorite! Low trading spread is a general service for all!

If you are not happy with your current broker, find one that works with separated commission and spread.
