Greece GDP Growth Rate QoQ
Being one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, Greece boasts a service-based economy. Following Greece's entrance into the European Union in 1980 and later admission in the Euro Area in 2000, the country's economy has experienced rapid growth. However, as this boom had been fueled mostly by the availability of low-cost borrowing and the expansion of the public sector, the budget deficit and sovereign debt reached unsustainable levels in 2008. As a result, Greece is experiencing its worst economic crisis since 1974, and significant measures mandated by the IMF and the European Commission as part of the bailout program are being implemented.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the EUR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the EUR.
