The free-market economy of Japan, which has developed industrially, ranks fourth among the world's economies. Its electronics industry is the world's most important, and it also boasts the third-largest vehicle industry. Despite the fact that Japan's economy is well-known for its efficiency and competitiveness in export-oriented sectors, productivity in other areas such as agriculture, distribution, and services is smaller than in these industries.

A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the JPY while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the JPY.
