The primary components of the consumer price index in Oman are: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco (30% of the overall weight); Transportation and Communication (22%); And Rent, Electricity, Water, and Fuel (21%). 8% of the total weight is accounted for by Apparel, Textiles, and Footwear, followed by Personal Care Items and Miscellaneous services (6%), and Furniture and Housing (5%). Other services include: Education (3%), Recreation and Entertainment (3%), and Medical Care (2%). As of the year 2000, the index has a base value of 100.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the OMR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the OMR.
