Housing, water, electricity, natural gas, and other fuels are among the most important categories in Portugal's consumer price index, accounting for 10.3% of the total weight. The topmost valuable categories are Food and non-alcoholic beverages (20.8%), Transportation (14%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (10.4%). Restaurants and Hotels contribute 8.6%, Recreation and Culture account for 7.2%, and Clothing and Footwear account for 6.9%. The index also consists of categories such as Health (6.3%) and Furnishings, domestic equipment, and everyday housekeeping (6.2%). The remaining 9.4% is made up of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Communication, and Education.
A higher than expected figure should be seen as positive (bullish) for the EUR while a lower than expected figure should be seen as negative (bearish) for the EUR.
