Manual trading is always done first so that you know your system inside out. Automation can be implemented after that for efficiency. There is no room for error when you are trading client money. If one can't even ensure manual trades are executed without error, you won't be able to handle automated trades when something screws up especially when you start handling 6 and 7 figure accounts.

You should always trade manually for at least a year. That forces you to learn your system inside out and get used to the market movements. Automation is good, but many will still stop the automated system when they are unable to take the drawdowns - any automation is ultimately still controlled by manual intervention.

You gotta check with your account manager for their exact definition.

Yeah conflict of interest! Lol. Legit managers make much more in the long term from increased AUM and fees than those who just burn client accounts.

Thanks!@minutemanmissile I've strict money management rules including when to enter, the market has to hit a preset drawdown level before I enter, which at this point for 2013 I'm very close to entering the market too. Might only get a few opportunities to enter the market each year but the odds are weighted in my favor. That is my live account, I'll PM you later, at work now..@pt49I don't see any reason why anyone would have aaron manage their account based on the disclosed myfxbook results.Because there is no visible history, account size, trade size etc (all locked as privat...

Can you elaborate? Not too sure what you mean. How I'm doing it is clients open their own trading account, I've an top level money manager account, whatever trades I execute in my account automatically executes in theirs too. Performance fees are only taken if I make money for them above a highwatermark.

Thanks for the kind words I'm glad my partners and clients feel the same way too! Yeah all my profit can come from only a few weeks in the year. My strat is a sniper instead of shot gunner, I wait very long and patiently for the odds to be in my favor and go for the kill. Pretty hard to lose money. Funded that account about end of 2011 and really started going at it in 2012. Drawdown hasn't reache my preset level for 2013 so no new trades yet. 2012 was pretty good all that profit came in while I was on holiday, due to the JPY.Could easily do multiples of that return by upping the lever...

AndyQuant - you can't hedge on the same account with OANDA. But you can hedge in different accounts e.g. buy in sub-account A, sell in sub-account B

I am new to profession fx trading, in my second year. I can share a little on how to get more capital though. Know your trading strategy inside out, don't go for small investors (you really don't want 100 $100 investors calling you day and night), start networking both in person and online, have a verified myfxbook or other proof for potential clients, learn how to pitch. Keep at it and they WILL come. We have a small community of money managers where I come from, slowly but surely even the newer ones are growing AUM to the 6 and 7 figures like this.

I suggest you search who are the traders who have consistently made money for the past 3-4 decades and are still around. As an earlier poster said, money/risk management is crucial. Focus on protecting your capital and the gains will follow. Trading is like poker, you need money to be in the game. Without money, you can't bet.And yes, with a 30% profits/mth target your account will blow up sooner or later. Compounding long term is the way to go. Hint: Ed Seykota turned $5000 into $13 million over 13 years.
