for those who need to keep the pc running all the time here is how

What you need to do is go into Control Panel and in Power Options, there should be various and assorted options for controlling the PC's sleep habits

I wouldn't advise to be constantly glued to the monitor.

But I think it could be an alternative to a VPS if you use EAs: Take an old Laptop that you don't need anymore and let it run 24h a day. But so far I didn't find out to prevent Windows to reboot for updates. I have Chosen 'no automatic updates', but it still reboots sometimes.

It is more expensive to run your PC 24/5 then to buy a VPS. Not to mention less reliable.

For those running their trading terminals and EA's on own infrastructure I would recommend using a (small) server intended for 24x7 usage.
For added resilience install free ESXi in a small cluster allowing you to easily reboot the VM should the physical server fail.
MT4 (not sure about MT5) runs as a single process, hence it is preferable to only one (compute intensive) EA per MT4 client for performance reasons - communication between the EA's can be done rather easily by basic socket communication or a database as you may want to store state between restarts anyhow.

Bay server? Bad idea... it's better to rent VPS. They have cross connections to brokers trading servers and warranty of uptime. What's more they have mostly very fast internet connection.

If you buy VPS, be aware that MT4 terminals are RAM consuming...

I run two desktops 24/7 , windows updates off, i reboot manually over the weekend if desired. Huge ram fast processors on dedicated server costs me 500+ a month from cns vps. https://commercialnetworkservices.com/DedicatedServers/

Running desktops with fast mbps in/out from office helps cut costs.

VPS normally lack performance if you are doing something complex but suitable if you are hosting a platform for collecting signals or running a simple commercial trading system. Most vps can't be trusted and they over-sale their hardware leaving you with lack of resources when needed the most ( when the market is ticking the most).

Recently mt4 eats ram and cpu much more since adding their built in magazine readers, signal store, and application store.

The need for vps and dedicated servers are normally for latency reasons and uptime.

If your internet is solid with no downtime, you can host from home if you are not chasing the momentum.

I dunno, I pay $140USD/a month and my VPS is faster than 90% of any computers out there! With 1MS ping to my brokers server with 99% uptime. 12GHz CPU 9GB ram 120gb SSD. You don't get much better than that.

I have never used vps. Bought a big UPS, plugged my computer and internet connection in and not for 2+ years never looked back.
The power outages last for an hour or two, which the UPS can handle. Never had an internet outtage in two years, that I know of. I suppose there were a few but they were resolved before I was even aware.

But it is probably better to go the route of vps. I just thought instead of paying up to $30 a month for a service. I can pay ten months in advance for a decent size UPS and just replace the battery once a while.
