Investors also kept a close eye on the Middle East war as the Israel Défense Forces (IDF) gear up for a significant ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The benchmark CAC 40 was down 15 points, or 0.2 percent, at 6,878 after gaining 0.6 percent the previous day.

China-exposed luxury group Kering lost 3 percent after revenue declined in Q3. Dassault Systemes jumped 6.3 percent after the software maker raised its 2023 profit outlook.

Industrial-gas supplier Air Liquide rose about half a percent after the company said its project backlog and investment plans are at record levels.
