I would think it is a good idea to pause or switch off the EA on important announcement days like Non-Farm-Payroll?
I don't, it's a trend following system. Some news events will go with the trend and some against. It also makes most of it's profit in sudden bursts of activity. Miss one of the runs and you are in a world of hurt.

Thanks for your response Steve;
- Risk management wise, due to the unpredictable nature of announcements and traders sentiments as a result, price action can go in any direction ie countertrend. Which adds uncertainty, not something i'd imagine an EA would deal with favourably? But I have not tested this assertion so I don't know. I'll spend sometime backtesting major announcements and get back. I'll modify my previous question/thought to switching off EA +/- some minutes around a scheduled news announcement, in the interest of capital preservation! (Which is an 'individual' trading approach)...

I had the exact same problem previously. The solution is to close MT4 and re-open it after a few seconds. By doing so, the EA will automatically close all open positions (if you are running it using default settings). I did it as well as for some strange reason I had one open sell still open, just like you. The "funny" thing is that I'm using a VPS at Commercial Network Services and my broker is ThinkForex... Don't have any idea why the EA left this one trade open. :(

Hi, yes sure it can go countertrend. I'm working off the principal that the backtest and live trading results for this EA include all news results and the EA is profitable. You could, as you say, analyse the data against news release date/times and see if excluding the news releases would make the EA more profitable. I think just cutting the news trades out without analysing the result would be unwise as you might be removing some of the most profitable trades.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on. I did consider doing it myself but it's will take a fair amount of messing around in Excel or similar to get the results out.
Best regards Steve

I'll share the outcome, though please bear with me in terms of the output perhaps occurring as a little protracted due to other commitments. But it certainly is the intention to do sooner rather than later. :-)
- Perhaps other's on this forum have already tested???

I'm in Thinkforex as well and that trade that everyone is so concerned about closed at a 56 PIP profit at 17:30 GMT on March 11th. My Internal and external numbers were both the same at 0.00. Thank goodness I left FGB alone...
When I closed it manually, EURUSD was at 1,30070 (at around 14:22 GMT), so that trade was 83,2 pips in profit, and the EURUSD was moving up, so I don't think that it was wise to leave it open, especially that the EA's own trades were closed in the early morning. I guess this is why everyone was concerned about this single left out trade - if the EA closed all of them, why leave out one for a couple of us?
I don't really like when such things happen and I believe in such rare circumstances we should minimise the possible errors by closing it out manually. At least that's what I'm doing. Of course otherwise I never manually intervene with the EA at all, so don't get me wrong here.

Combination of initially trading with larger risk and a highly volatile market.

Check to see if the symbol has a prefix or suffix such as EURUSD. or EURUSDf ....
Right click the Market Window and Press "Show all" You should find and open the chart for the correct symbol
