Economy of United Kingdom

The economy of the United Kingdom, which consists of the economies of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, is the fifth largest in the world.

The resolution of Brexit, after the 2016 decision to leave the European Union, has severely complicated the nation's vast commercial ties with the European Union, whereas discussions are still going on about the future of their economic relationship.

The United Kingdom uses the British pound sterling as its official currency. Although historically the British pound has been worth more than one U.S. dollar, the dollar is still valued more as the U.S. economy is larger and more powerful than the U.K.

The economy of the United Kingdom is powered by its vast service sector, which accounts for more than three-quarters of the U.K.'s gross domestic product. It consists of several industries, including financial and commercial services, as well as retail, food and beverages, tourism, and entertainment.

Bank of United Kingdom

The central bank of the United Kingdom is the Bank of England (BoE), its objectives are to improve and preserve monetary stability.

Interest Rate of United Kingdom

The most influential and official interest rate in the United Kingdom is the Bank of England base rate. An interest rate encourages borrowing since it reduces the cost of repayment, the less money spent on debt repayment, the more spent on other things resulting in an economic expansion.

To control inflation, the government gives the Bank of England a target inflation rate. After then, the Interest Rate is decided by the Committee on Monetary Policy (MPC).
