Metaquotes have announced that they will no longer update MT4 as they focus on MT5. (https://www.forexbrokerz.com/news/mt4-stops-developing-mt4). MT4 continues to be the preferred choice of most traders, despite the numerous improvements being made to the MT5 lately, especially the adding of the hedging option.

I have no desire to move to MT5. I don't like it, I don't find it to be as reliable or as intuitive as MT4.

As long as MT4 is running this way and tons of EA's created and running on MT4 can keep running as it is.

Well it's fine for us ^^

As execution is worse, and broker support is lacking. Ctrader is much prefered to MT5. And unless they make a compatibility layer for MT5 to run MT4 EAs, MT5 will have a hard time getting any dominant market share.

There haven't been any meaningful upgrades to MT4 lately anyway.

I don’t think that is really a smart move. We all know that MT4 is used from a lot more users than MT5. Maybe Metaquotes are willing to upgrade MT5 and make it more popular. But the truth is that MT4 is way better at this moment and most of the traders won’t stop using it. Let us all hope that they will still support MT4 in order the platform to work properly.

Thank you a lot for this information. Sorry, I got so much used to MT4, also MT5 looks similar with it in many aspects

In a sense I am pleased, with the last updates it feels like they were heading into a bloatware situation with MT4.

I just hope that they listen to traders on MT5 development (haven't used it in years, so not sure of current status), but things like undockable windows for multi-screens, custom time frames, more order types (like OCO), built in risk management options etc. have been requested by the community for years and have fallen on deaf ears... I'm hopeful MT5 will bridge that gap in future.
For every loss there should be at least an equal and opposite profit.

I hope that's what happens, because MT5 could really stand some improvement before it takes MT4's place.

Thank heavens I'm off that train. Ditched MT4 years ago, far to slow to be of practical use for me.

I think that there should be a long term legacy support for MT4 as well. I am afraid that some custom indicators I am used to may not work on MT5. Will need to follow this closely as I use only MT4 now.

What platform do you use? How much faster is it compared to MT4?

Completely agree - it would be a serious hit if we won't be able to use custom MT4 EAs and indicators on MT5 in case MT4 is no longer supported.

In Russia the platforms of MetaQuotes are the most popular ones and personally I prefer MT4. But I guess sooner or later MT5 will prevail. Hopefully there will be legacy support for tools on MT4.

Ok guys metaquotes stops developing the MT4 , but that doesn’t mean it would stop supporting it, these are 2 different things. They will try to make the bridge to the MT5 but they would not ditch the MT4 just like that. The last update is 1010 there is nothing more to update, they have to move forward. The MT4 is already 10 Year old software which has been perfected all these years and it would be still used for the years to come and it will be supported, but I understand the developers point of view. They need to move on.

When I began my forex thing in 2013, I started with the mt5 - and trying to trade with mt4 after first learning the newer system, it just feels inferior to mt5. Seriously.
Especially the ea testing environment is far better on mt5.

MT4 is the best scam platform in existence.
it's made not for traders. it is made for brokers to manipulate prices.
I was at the exhibition for fx devs and saw that many developing companies offer program solutions to fnck up us, ordinary traders.
