The Australian market is notably lower on Thursday, snapping a five-session winning streak, following the mixed cues from Wall Street overnight. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 is falling well below the 7,800 level, with losses in financial and technology stocks partially offset by gains in energy stocks amid higher crude oil prices.

The Hong Kong stock market has moved lower in consecutive trading days, slumping more than 260 points or 1.4 percent in that span. The Hang Seng Index now sits just above the 18,310-point plateau and it's looking at another soft start for Thursday's trade.

The China stock market on Wednesday snapped the two-day winning streak in which it had collected more than 40 points or 1.3 percent. The Shanghai Composite Index now sits just beneath the 3,130-point plateau and it may take further damage on Thursday.

The Taiwan stock market has moved higher in four straight sessions, gathering more than 480 points or 2.3 percent in that span. The Taiwan Stock Exchange now sits just above the 20,700-point plateau although investors are likely to cash in on Thursday.
