Dear traders,

I have browsed quickly about straddle strategy to take advantage about Fx news.

Most of the topics on forums are very old.

Does Straddle is a forgotten Fx tactic?

Anyone is still straddling news manually or semi auto like with Amazing_EA or anything?

Advantages Vs Drawbacks?

Please share your experience : )

Cheers

Do you know any case of trading news with consistent gains?

This is exactly the point I want to find out.

If someone was straddling news... why did he stop?

There are many issues trading news, broker freezes the platform, spread widens, price slippage, etc which makes trading news very hard to be profitable on the long run.

I trade news only when price corrects and expectations are for trend to continue. Sometimes after the news price make false move only after a while to continue with the trend.

Brokers freezes the platform:
=> This can be avoided with reliable brokers.

Spread widens:
=> This can be minimized with reliable brokers but we still may suffer from it.

Price slippage:
=> Not much we can do.

According to me, the main problem is 'Spread widening'. Let's focus on this point and then trading news could be easier.

I think trading news was screwed up by HFT and quantitative computing. No one can read news and make trading decision than an hft algo. If anyone thinks that his MT4 platform works as HFT and is fast enough, he is wrong.

In a sense, manually trading news is like being a sheep in front of wolves.

Dear friend,
Will you kindly give me the chance to show you it's possible.
In fact, I build a quick Straddle EA and I added the french touch to it : )
In other words, I guess this new idea could trick market.... I must give it a go!

=> All I need: a fresh news... (currently in test on EURUSD and GBPUSD)

With all my pleasure. Because of price slippage and spread widening the strategy should be tested on a real account. Testing it on a demo should give very different results than on real. Small account, but real.

Last 20 or so NFP's were wet fish. Flip, flop, flip, flop....dead. Last 3 Fridays I don't even bother to watch, beer and bbq. Just nothing going on.

News in itself has no value, first you have to guess the news, then you have to guess the markets reaction to it. Might just as well flip a coin.

What you can do though, which might work, is wait till about 15 mins after all the knee jerking is done, then straddle. If there is going to be any real move it be a little after the news.

I have seen a $3 mil account where the owner simply traded NFP, once a month. But that was years ago, markets just don't act like that anymore. Volatility is at 7 year lows. Almost nothing happens on news now days.

Yes you are right... Only Live test will make it reliable!

We don't need to guess the direction with straddle strategy.

=> I can't say it's not true. We also could lauch straddle after 10 min for NFP... at least we should be sure to avoid slippage or any thing like that.

As far as I see, even if it's news aren't that impressive compare to years ago, while I'm writting, we got a news on GBPUSD.
=> The indicator has detected it @ 11:29:52 AM (broker time) Unfortunately, Price has already dropped from 30 pips.
=> Placing Pending orders @ 11:30:05 => Sell stop triggered 1.7098 => Hit stopLoss -4 pips.

I need to improve my trick... give me another chance : )

I have straddled many times ago, since broker starts to be not honest and delay my orders.

Here are results:

Thank you for sharing.

Your EA straddled good:
Average duration 18 sec & 2 min

As we talked about earlier, Broker get an very important part into this kind of strategy.

Why haven't looked for another broker (true ECN) that won't cheat on your trades?

I have tried... Armada, Admiral Markets, Pepperstone... Now I will try RVD where I have PAMM also. They seems to be honest so far.

I was with Peppertsone too... I thought they were good, I read too many fake positive reviews. For news time, they are pretty much the worst... Spread can widen like 30 pips! Awfull.

I will try with FxOpen... Let's keep in touch about good brokers for straddle strategies.

There are a lot of bubbles ready to burst. It's just a matter of time before markets go boom. The end of 2014 and year 2015 probably are going to put 2008 crisis in shade.

Be ready with your straddling strategy, it might prove very profitabile.

So you forecast bubbles...
Actually it's boring to test this strategy in middle of july and august
