Typical of a forex scam artist. takes your money and runs away. Bought Quant Bar thinking I was buying from a honest person. My bad.

Long term trend detection is likely to be pretty straightforward, usual culprits I would have thought.

No Eric1704, this is unsubstantiated nonsense. Just because someone sells an indicator doesn't mean he's required to provide ongoing support for it. He sold it as is and didn't make any false claims. You're whining because you're under the false impression Sean owes you something, he doesn't. You bought quantbar, you have quantbar, he doesn't owe you continued maintenance and changes on it; he's clearly discontinued it in favor of quantbar pro which is clearly taking up his time because it's working for him and his clients. Who the fuck are you to demand anything? You weren't scammed, you're just ignorant.

Eric I don't want to jump on insulting bandwagon but I need to add that if you expect a"Holy Grail" than I suggest quit looking in this business as you are kidding yourself if you think you will find.

Best of luck either way and remember that only by commitment you will learn to trade and even then keep your head down as nobody can beat the markets.

You are right Ramon. Sell something and disappear. Typical forex industry. You seem to be highly ignorant too.

It looks like you're off to a great start. The fact that you're 75 trades in is a great start. I especially like that your equity is often higher than the end of day balance. It means you're not avoiding losses.

Gauging strictly from the equity curve, I assume you're running a trending strategy?

Eric, you cannot just buy an indicator and become rich otherwise everyone will be wealthy here. I know why you are disappointed though. A very strong USD trend started this summer and if you had allowed only short trades (EURUSD) on your quantbar EA, you would have had a very good return by now (I don't know if it's was possible to parameter this on the EA). In other words, you need to have a fundamental view also (which is similar to a long term technical view). Just look at every profitable system for the last 6 months, they are all surfing on the dollar bubble...

I also watched the quantbar video last summer and coded the EA on ctrader to see if it was true. I backtested it on the 2010-2014 period, just before when the long trend on USD began. The expert advisor yielded a very good return with low risk, so this is a good strategy!!! The parameters I chose for the backtest were take profit 20 pips (an average hourly bar) and stop loss 90 pips (optimized for take profit = 20) and the same bins logical as in the video...

Quantbar pro is the same system but with every USD pairs (not only EURUSD) and I think it is going to be a very profitable system in the year ahead if it follows the trend...

Now Eric, you should continue to surf on this USD bubble with us (do never try to find the top). The reversal is our enemy! (The trend is your friend...).

And for god sake please stop whining! 😄😈😂😭

Yes, it's a trend strategy; that's an interesting observation that you can tell that from the equity curve. I presume it's the smoothness of the curve telling you that? You'd expect a more volatile curve from a non-trend strategy?

You're also correct, I don't avoid losses, if my stops are hit my stops are hit, that's part of the game. Can't win without losing some. Today is day 30 of my test, and I'm more than happy with the 36% return in that time-frame; in fact I'm quite ecstatic. I've finally proven to myself that this is doable and that was a big hurdle for me. I hope the next 30 days go as well, if they do, I'll take the risk of going live with it.

Yes @Eric1704, I am right, and you bought Quantbar, not Quantbar and a support contract for ongoing maintenance. Stop crying about it and go learn to trade for yourself, you're not owed anything. You got exactly what you paid for, an indicator.

Equity curves are usually a dead giveaway of the strategy type. If most of the equity is above the balance, it's often a trend strategy. If the equity is often below the balance, it's a range strategy.

Again, congratulations.

The history repeats! at 500-1000 trading frequencies from Shaun's back testing, notice there is a sharp downfall and you can see the equity curve is jerky.

It would be interesting to see this EA perform slightly a bit longer.

Hi Shaun, quick question to help me understand your quant bar indicator. How did you determine the size of the bins? I get that they are desirably equal, but bins 0 and 9 are not equal to the others (likely by design). Did you exclude the most extreme hourly moves or something like that to get reasonably well-defined bins? Thanks!
seriously long expensive haul

Hi nonlinear,

That's sort of what I did. I designed the bin sizes so that I would get appropriate coverage across average bars. I didn't specifically exclude large bars. It's more that I didn't see any point in looking at them because the sample sizes are so small. I only want to look at things where I can make reasonable statistical assumptions.

Hi Shaun, I understand that I'm offtopic here but I've looked at Seer Trading FXCM and it seems a nice add-on to Ninjatrader.
May I ask how did you manage tu run it offline, as I see from your screenshots ?
And as for the data, I'm using my own dataset after Ninjatrader export, because their data updater was freezing or crashing.
Did you manage to make it work or did you use own data too?

Thank you.

Hi Trick,

Seer and Ninja are completely different platforms. It's not an add on to Ninja.

I was never able to connect Seer to the automated price databases. I had to import it manually. I didn't have to do anything special to make it run offline - you just run the backtests.

The Seer forum is very good. I suggest trying it.
