Our USD10,000 to Taiwan After Typhoon Danas Was More Than Just a Figure
On 6 July, Typhoon Danas tore through Taiwan’s southern coast, hitting Tainan with heavy rain and strong winds. Thousands of homes were flooded or damaged, infrastructure was knocked out, and power and water supplies were cut off for extended periods. The agricultural sector recorded losses of NT$1.6 billion (approx. USD49 million), and education facilities sustained more than NT$260 million (approx. USD8.9 million) in damages.
Our Decision to Act
As soon as the scale of the impact became clear, we knew we had to help. We donated USD10,000 to Tainan’s official Social Assistance Fund to support immediate relief and long-term recovery. These funds are being used to help restore essential services and provide practical support to those hardest hit.
“We stand with the people of Tainan as they recover from the widespread damage caused by Typhoon Danas,” said David Barrett, CEO of EBC Financial Group (UK) Ltd. “We hope this contribution reaches those who need it most, and helps communities move forward.”
A Broader Approach to Responsibility
This donation is part of our ongoing commitment to social responsibility. We’ve supported education and childcare projects across Southeast Asia, and we believe in using our platform for more than just financial results. Our actions reflect a broader responsibility — one that connects market stability with community resilience.
Not Just Financial Safety, but Human Support
Just as we uphold strict fund segregation, robust systems, and transparent processes to protect our clients, we apply that same sense of duty when people outside the markets need support. Being present means more than managing volatility — it means stepping up in times of crisis.
Looking Ahead with Purpose
We’ll continue monitoring the recovery in Taiwan and remain ready to contribute further as needs evolve. At EBC, it’s not just about reacting — it’s about showing we care, consistently and without hesitation.
